Officials told that a brief exchange of gunfire between militants and security forces took place within Lolab valley but no fresh contact with the militants has been established.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar also confirmed the report.

"A brief exchange of gunfire took place between security forces and militants in the woods of Lolab", he said.

He refuted the claims about any encounter in the area, adding that after a brief exchange of gunfire only searches are underway.

He also said after the exchange of brief gunfire there is no fresh firing in the area only joint searches are going on.
