New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to BJP demanding apology over Rahul Gandhi’s democracy remark at Cambridge University. Tharoor said Gandhi “did not say anything that requires an apology.”
“He expressed concern about the state of our democracy & attacks on it by the practices of the ruling government.”
Targeting PM Modi, Tharoor said what Gandhi said was “milder” than the former has said in foreign countries.
“This is milder than what PM Narendra Modi has said in foreign countries, he has constantly attacked Congress party, previous government, and alleged lack of progress before he came to power. This kind of discourse abroad was initiated by PM Modi not by Congress,” he added.
Both the Houses of Parliament were briefly adjourned as the second day of Budget Session also witnessed uproar and ruckus over Rahul Gandhi’s comments and Adani stocks.

While Union Minister Piyush Goyal demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi, who said the democracy in India was under attack at Cambridge University, the Opposition demanded Joint Parliamentary Committee probe over Adani-Hindenburg issue.
In an interesting development, opposition parties on Tuesday held protests separately against the Centre demanding JPC on the Adani stocks issue. While BRS and AAP MPs held placards, Congress MPs staged a similar kind of protest but not along with the BRS and AAP MPs.
Similarly, the MPs of TMC protested demanding a probe into Adani stocks at the Mahatma Gandhi statues inside the Parliament complex but no other opposition party was with them. The same agenda but different agitation suggests a possible crack in the opposition's unity that has been under fire by the ruling BJP on several occasions.
