New Delhi: Social media erupted with rumours about death of MDH Spices owner ‘Mahashay Dharampal Gulati’ on Saturday, which were strongly denied by people close to him.

The rumours had it that the MDH’s owner and its iconic brand ambassador breathed his last at a hospital in Delhi at the age of 95.

The video was shared by NDTV journalist Uma Shankar Singh on his Facebook timeline MDH owner who is fondly called Mahashay can be seen surrounded by his close people who said that the nonagenarian is hale and hearty. They slammed those who are in the business of rumour mongering and urged people not to blindly believe anything said on the social media.

Mahashiyan Di Hatti (MDH) is one of the leading brands of spices in the country. The owner became the face of the company featuring in its advertisements.

The story of Mahashay is quite an inspiring one.

The company that we know today as the leading spice company began as a small shop in the Pakistan's Sialkot, which was set up by his father before partition. After partition, Mahashay’s family moved to Delhi. He earlier used to ferry people on rented Tonga but could not make both ends meet. He then rented a small shop in Chandni Chowk and named it Mahashiyan Di Hatti (MDH) and started selling spices  and over time became the leading seller in the business.
