Imphal (Manipur):  Re-polling is being held in 34 polling stations in Manipur that went to polls in the first phase of the two-phased state assembly elections.  The polling started at 7 am on Thursday morning and is set to conclude at 3 in the afternoon.


The re-polling is being held in eight assembly constituencies and was ordered after several malpractices were reported in the poll process.

The polling in Manipur was held in two phases on March 4 and March 8. In phase 1, the polling took place in 38 constituencies and in the second phase the polling took place in 22 constituencies.

The state has a 19,02,562-strong electorate comprising of 9,28,573 male and 9,73,989 female voters. There are around 45,642 new voters this time.

Even though the Election Commission has made elaborate security arrangement by deploying 280 companies of central forces for a free and fair conduct of the elections, several malpractices and cheating was reported in the voting therefore re-voting was sought.
