Ahead of Lok Sabha Ethics Committee's report on the cash-for-query case, TMC MP Mahua Moitra said that people will see "Mahabharat ka rann" in parliament as the BJP has started "vastraharan". As she made her way into the parliament complex, she said, "Maa Durga is here and will see what happens next".
"Maa Durga aa gayi hai, ab dekhenge...Jab naash manuj par chhata hai, pehle vivek mar jaata hai. They have started 'vastraharan' and now you will watch 'Mahabharat ka rann'", she added.
The Ethics panel will be submitting its report on the cash-for-query case after it held hearings on the matter. During her turn before the panel, Mahua had accused the members of verbally doing her "vastraharan". Moitra had stressed her demand to cross-examine businessman Darshan Hiranandani, who is accused of providing bribes to her.
The entire case came forth after the Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey alleged that Mahua received bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to target the Adani Group and shared her parliament login credentials with Hiranandani so that he could put desired questions which would be later asked in the Lok Sabha. Dubey wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to make these allegations.
The committee is expected to recommend Moitra's expulsion from parliament. As per the agenda documents released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Ethics Committee head Vinod Kumar Sonkar will lay the panel's maiden report on the table of the House.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also initiated a probe into charges against the TMC MP after receiving a referral from anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal.
