Top leaders of the three parties are currently meeting in Hotel Trident where a resolution proposing Uddhav Thackeray's name as the Chief Minister candidate and leader of 'Maha Vikas Aghadi' was passed unanimously by all MLAs. Sources say he will have a deputy each from the Congress and the NCP.
Uddhav Thackeray is set to lead the Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress alliance government, called Maha Vikas Aghadi, in Maharashtra. Reports say the swearing-in function will be held in Shivaji park in Mumbai which holds a special place for the Thackeray family and the Sena. The party came into existence in Shivaji Park, and its founder Bal Thackeray was creamted there in 2012.
Uddhav would be the next chief minister of Maharashtra, the NCP confirmed on Tuesday, while claiming that collapse of the Devendra Fadnavis government has punctured the BJP's "arrogance".
He dismissed Devendra Fadnavis's claim that the Sena-NCP- Congress coalition will not last long, and stated that their government will run not only for five years, but for "20-25 years".
Earlier in the day, Fadnavis tendered his resignation for want of numbers after his deputy, NCP's Ajit Pawar, stepped down citing "person reasons".
"This is victory of the people...the people of Maharashtra have deflated the arrogance of BJP leaders," Malik told reporters ahead of a meeting of leaders of the NCP, Sena and Congress.
"Uddhav Thackeray will be the next chief minister, (NCP supremo Sharad) Pawar has already said. Uddhav-ji has also consented to be the chief minister," Malik said.
The leaders of the three parties will meet Governor Koshyari after their meeting, he said.
In the assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats and Shiv Sena 56, while the Congress-NCP combine won 98 seats in the 288-member assembly.
