The announcement was made by Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shikhawat who took to twitter and congratulated all the residents of Burhanpur district which is also known as 'Darwaza of Dakhin'.
"Congratulations Burhanpur! Burhanpur of Madhya Pradesh has become the first "Har Ghar Jal" certified district of India. Water is not only life, but life can also change by coming home through a tap. Water rich wishes to all Burhanpur residents especially mothers and sisters! The team of Jal Jeevan Mission did wonders!," Shikhawat tweeted in Hindi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated people of the district. ""Congratulations to my sisters and brothers of Burhanpur for this remarkable accomplishment. This would not have been possible without a collective spirit among the people and mission mode efforts by the JJM Team and the MP Government under @ChouhanShivraj Ji," PM Modi tweeted.
Even Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan lauded the achievement and congratulated residents and authorities of Burhanpur.
"Prime Minister Mr @narendramodi Ji's inspiration and Mr. @gssjodhpur With the guidance of ji, Burhanpur district has fulfilled its resolve to provide pure drinking water from 'Har Ghar Nal' under #JalJeevanMission. Hearty congratulations to all the citizens of the district and the district administration for this proud achievement," Chouhan tweeted in Hindi.
Only a little over 35 per cent households in Burhanpur had potable drinking water through tap connections at the time of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August 2019. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, efforts of Panchayat officials and district administration helped to achieve this incredible feat.
