Madhya Pradesh: In a major blow for the Congress party, one of its members Pradhyuman Singh Lodhi who is also the MLA of Bada Malhera Assembly seat in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, has quit the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday. Lodhi had resigned from his post of Member of Legislative Assembly as well as his membership from the Congress party early on Saturday. According to the reports, Madhya Pradesh Assembly’s pro-tem Speaker Rameshwar Sharma said that Lodhis resignation as MLA was approved on Sunday.

Soon after his resignation, he joined the ruling party BJP in presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP State President Vishnu Dutt Sharma on Sunday.

As quoted in a Time Of India report, Lodhi, after joining the party said, "I have resigned as MLA. My resignation has been accepted. Only the BJP can develop my Assembly seat areas. The chief minister also approved developmental schemes for my area."

CM Chauhan and Sharma welcomed Lodhi on joining the BJP while Party's State twitter handle took to the social media to inform about the development.

With the latest induction, Bharatiya Janata Party has 107 MLA in the State Assembly while the numbers of Congress party on the other hand has been dropped to 91.

It can be recalled that the Kamal Nath government had dramatically collapsed in Madhya Pradesh in March 2020 after 22 Congress MLAs close to Jyotiraditya Scindia switched sides and joined BJP. Following this, Shivraj Singh Chouhan took oath as state Chief Minister on March 23, for a record fourth term.
