Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid a floral tribute to freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu on her birth anniversary. Born on February 13, 1879, Sarojini Naidu was a political and social activist and a poet aside from this, she played a crucial role in India’s struggle for independence.






She was the first Indian woman to be president of the Indian National Congress (INC) and to be appointed an Indian state governor.


The Indian government has designated February 13 as National Women's Day to honour Sarojini Naidu's tireless efforts in women's empowerment, and social justice, and her literary contributions that have inspired generations.
