Lok Sabha Speaker Election: Ahead of the Lok Sabha Speaker election tomorrow, both Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday issued three-line whips to the respective members of their parties, asking them to be present in the Lower House on June 26.

The third day of the 18th Lok Sabha session will begin on Wednesday, during which the Speaker of the Lower House will be announced after the election.

The election for the post will take place as the ruling alliance and opposition failed to reach a consensus on the appointment of BJP MP Om Birla as the Speaker. Following this, the I.N.D.I.A bloc nominated Congress MP K Suresh as the opposition's candidate for the Speaker post.

In its three-line whip, Congress wrote that "all members of the party in the Lok Sabha are requested to kindle remain present in the House from 11:00 AM onwards toll the adjournement of the House on June 26, without fail, and support the party stand."

The whip further read that the notice should be treated as "most important" as a "very important issue will be taken up in the Lok Sabha tomorrow i.e. Wednesday, June 26."
