Panaji: Even as the Covid-19 cases continue to shoot up in Goa crossing the 59,000 tally, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday ruled out another lockdown in the coastal state stating this would have a cascading effect on economic activities.

Highlighting the revival of economic activities, Sawant said another lockdown in Goa will disrupt the same. The Chief Minister reminded the entire economy had come to a standstill during the same time last year when Goa was under a lockdown due to the novel coronavirus.

“There was drop in the collection of the GST while industries such as tourism had suffered a jolt. We want to avoid the situation,” PTI quoted Sawant as saying.

Asserting the virus cannot be controlled merely with a lockdown but with apt steps like prevention and vaccination, the Chief Minister said that his government has written to the Union Health Ministry and sought relaxation in the age limit for vaccination for the people associated with the tourism and media industries.
