Kolkata: Taking a jibe at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Leader of Opposition to the State's Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Friday advocated the nomination of any of the elected MLAs for the Chief Ministerial berth instead of worrying about by-polls in the state.
Citing the example of the BJP in Uttarakhand for its removal of former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat from the position of the state's chief and reinstating an elected member to the chair instead, he said that Uttarakhand BJP has set an example for her to follow.
"What is the rush all about? If BJP in Uttarakhand could replace a non-elected MLA for an elected MLA for the Chief Ministerial position, why can't she? Mamata Banerjee has 210-212 MLAs. Can't she instate one of them as the CM? Why is she so worried?", He said addressing reporters.
Tirath Singh Rawat had recently submitted his resignation as the CM to BJP President JP Nadda within just 4 months of his acquiring the CM's chair.
He further said referring to a remark made by the Madras High Court that elections in the state must not be conducted if the Covid-19 situation is not under control.
He added, "Unless the covid situation or vaccination is complete, election or by-election should not be conducted. Those who gave the circular for Covid on 15th, they said that local trains are closed. Those who can't run the local run, why are they demanding elections? Local train services are stopped which means the covid situation in West Bengal is extremely high."
Former Mamata-aide, he also lashed out at the Trinamool Congress accusing the party to be a private limited company.
The ones who have left the party to join and rejoin TMC have done so only fearing the consequences of staying back in BJP at the behest of the TMC, he explained.
"Many people are joining our party as well. The thing is there are many poor people among the candidates. They are misusing their power and threatening that they will lose their job of 6000 rs. In order to save their job, they need to hold the flag of TMC. There is no loss in this. Their physical bodies are being taken away by them, but they stay with us only. Again, when the fight for the election starts we will get them back", he iterated.
