New Delhi: With parts of northern India receiving showers on Tuesday, there is a further possibility of rain in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar that will bring down the temperature in these states between December 29 and 31.


Going by the predictions of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the chill is expected to increase further. The cold wave is predicted in most states of North India on these days because of snowfall and rain on the mountains.

The light rain or drizzle is the result of a Western Disturbance seen as a cyclonic circulation over East Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan and an induced cyclonic circulation that lies over southwest Rajasthan and the neighbourhood at lower tropospheric levels.


There will be light to moderate rain and snowfall in the hilly states till Wednesday. At the same time, there is a strong possibility of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday.






Uttarakhand also expects to have a similar weather condition starting from Tuesday till Wednesday. Rain is likely in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday. According to the IMD, in central India, rain is expected in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh, while in the eastern part Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal are likely to receive rain from December 29 to 30.


The Meteorological Department has forecast cold wave conditions in Bihar for two days, Wednesday and Thursday, while Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are likely to see similar weather conditions during 31st December- 2nd January and over north Rajasthan on 1st & 2nd January 2022, said IMD.


During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain is likely over many parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.


Light rain with isolated snowfall likely over Western Himalayas. Light rain is predicted over Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, Orissa, Vidarbha, and Sikkim. The minimum temperature in Northwest regions is likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees.


Isolated thunderstorm, lightning & hailstorm also likely over East MP, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 28th & 29th December.


Dense fog is also likely over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh.
