New Delhi: 1st November 2021 marks the 65th formation day of Kerala. It commemorates the foundation of Kerala as an independent state after the unification of three provinces. Earlier Kerala was divided into three independent provinces namely Malabar, Cochin, and Travancore. The union of the three provinces led to the formation of modern-day Kerala, and the day is celebrated as Kerala Piravi Day. 


On the occasion, the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated everyone by a tweet saying, “Today's Kerala is the result of the struggle of millions of people for a united Kerala. Let us strive to make their dreams come true and create tomorrow's of unity, peace, and prosperity. Happy Kerala Birthday to all.” 






He added, “For us to move forward by overcoming the challenges created by communalism and caste discrimination by holding on to religious brotherhood and democratic values. Kerala was able to better meet the basic needs including education, health, food and public welfare. We have been able to become a model for the world in all those things,” in a Facebook post. 



Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the state by tweeting, “Kerala Piravi day greetings to the people of Kerala. Kerala is widely admired for its picturesque surroundings and the industrious nature of its people. May the people of Kerala succeed in their various endeavours.”






Kerala’s Governor Arif Mohammad Khan also conveyed his best wishes to the people of Kerala saying, “My heartiest #Keralappiravi wishes to Keralites all over the world. Let us work in harmony &fraternity for the development &progress of our beloved State, and for nourishing and popularizing our mother tongue, Malayalam.”






Since the day also marks the foundation day of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chattisgarh, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry, Presiden Ram Nath Kovind also extended his greetings through Twitter. 


“Greetings to the people of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry on the formation day. My best wishes to the residents of these States and Union Territories for their bright future” tweeted the President. 






Congress leader, and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi also tweeted, “Each state in India was formed on the foundation of democratic values which need to be protected at all costs. Best wishes to our brothers & sisters for their state formation days. #Kerala #Punjab #Chhattisgarh #Haryana #TamilNadu #AndhraPradesh  #Karnataka #MadhyaPradesh.”
