Kashmir encounter: Two terrorists were gunned down while five security personnel, including an officer, were injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, police informed on Saturday. Earlier in the day, security forces cornered terrorists in Kashmir's Kulgam, resulting in a shootout.
In the early shootout, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mumtaz Ali suffered minor injuries due to a stray bullet near the encounter site, news agency PTI reported officials as informing.
The shootout comes amid the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections that are taking place after a decade. The Kulgam and Devsar constituencies went to the polls in the first phase on September 18. The final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir elections will be held on October 1.
The Indian Army in an X post said, "Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched today by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir in Arigam, Kulgam. During the search, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire and firing started. The operation is ongoing"
Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the encounter is taking place in the Adhigam Devsar area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the spot. More details will be shared soon." Meanwhile, additional security forces have been called in to prevent the terrorists from escaping.
The administration is keeping a close eye on the situation.
Terrorists are trying to spread unrest in Jammu and Kashmir via new avenues. In the wake of this, search operations are being conducted regularly to crack down on terrorists in the valley.
6 Terrorists Arrested
On Friday, the police exposed a terror module in Awantipora, Pulwama. The police arrested six terrorist associates of the Jaish-e-Mohammed. These men used to train youths in various aspects of spreading terrorism in India.
The police also recovered 5 IEDs, 30 detonators, 17 batteries of IEDs, 2 pistols, 3 magazines, 25 rounds, 4 hand grenades, and Rs 20,000 in cash from them. The police was acting on intelligence inputs from their sources.
