Actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan is officially set to enter Rajya Sabha with his nomination being accepted on Tuesday. His entry into the Upper House marks a significant milestone for the MNM and further strengthens the party’s alliance with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu.

Haasan’s candidature comes as part of a seat allocated by the DMK to its ally MNM, a gesture that underscores the growing political bond between the two parties. Alongside Haasan, the nomination of DMK MP P Wilson, a senior advocate and sitting Rajya Sabha member, was also approved.

The DMK had earlier announced a list of three nominees for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections: P Wilson, who is being renominated, Rokiah Malik (Salma), an acclaimed Tamil writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee and Sivalingam, a former legislator.
