The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Tuesday officially announced Alifa Ahmed as its candidate for the Kaliganj constituency in the upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly By-election, slated for June 19, 2025.

The announcement was made under the leadership and guidance of TMC Chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In an official statement, the party said, "AITC, under the inspiration and guidance of Hon’ble Chairperson Mamata Banerjee, we are pleased to announce the candidate for the upcoming West Bengal Legislative Assembly By-election scheduled for 19th June, 2025."

The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of incumbent TMC MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed in February 2025. Ahmed already won from the seat in 2011. 

Kaliganj Assembly Bypolls

The Election Commission on Sunday announced that a by-election for the Kaliganj assembly constituency in Nadia district, West Bengal, will take place on June 19, as per a report on PTI. Kaliganj is one of five assembly constituencies across four states scheduled for bypolls on the same day.

The election has been prompted by the passing of Trinamool Congress MLA Naseeruddin Ahmed in February.

According to the commission, the results will be declared on June 23.

Candidates have until June 2 to submit their nominations, which will be reviewed on June 3. The final date to withdraw nominations is June 5.
