Srinagar: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces on Monday in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter broke out after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hapatnaar area of Budgam District following information about presence of militants in the area, a police official said.


As the forces were closing in, the terrorists opened fire, prompting security forces to retaliate. The area has been cordoned off the police. “Brief exchange of fire at Hapat Naalah area of Zinpanchal in District Budgam. Area under cordon. Details shall follow,” Kashmir Police tweeted.

He said the search operation turned into a gun battle after terrorists opened fire on security forces. No casualties have been reported so far in the encounter, he added. The area has been cordoned off.

Ahead of the Republic Day, the terrorists are reportedly planning a major attack in the state.
