Three children, aged between 7 and 13, drowned while bathing in a dam in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district on Saturday (June 10), news agency PTI reported citing officials. The incident occurred at the Babhanikhand dam, about 210 kilometres from Ranchi's capital. Pramod Kumar Kesari, a Garhwa sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), stated that the police arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident.

"All three bodies have since been fished out of the dam and transported to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination," he was quoted as saying by PTI.

He stated that the children were herding goats near the dam.

"They decided to take a bath in the body of water. The deep dam had undercurrents that the children couldn't handle and drowned," he explained.

According to media reports, the three children were grazing goats near the dam when all three entered the dam and began taking baths. Because of the depth of the dam, all three began to drown. During this time, a woman began making noise after seeing all three children drown. A large number of people arrived after hearing the noise. People nearby rescued all three children from the dam, but all three had died by then.

Sonu Oraon (9 years), son of Munna Oraon, resident of Kushmaha of Garhwa police station area, Ankaj Oraon (7 years), son of Munna Oraon, resident of Jangipur, and Roopa Kumari, the 13-year-old daughter of Jawahar Oraon, resident of Jangipur are among the deceased, according to reports. SDPO Pramod Keshari, on the other hand, stated that two boys and one girl drowned in the dam. Police have taken custody of all three bodies, and further action has been taken.
