The Birsa Munda airport in Jharkhand capital Ranchi received a bomb threat on Friday, July 29. It was second day in a row that a threat was made to the airport authorities, reported news agency ANI. Earlier on Thursday a call was made and ransom demanded by an unidentified person.
According to the news agency, the threat on Friday was not made over the phone but a text message was sent to the authorities demanding Rs 20 lakh. They were threatened of blast at the airport if the demand was not met.
Soon after receiving the threat message, the Birsa Munda airport authorities approached police and a complaint was filed. Investigation is underway to nab the culprit.
"Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi received a bomb threat again on July 29th, via text message, with a demand of Rs 20 lakhs. The police are taking the necessary action after a complaint was given; an investigation is underway," said airport officials, as reported by ANI.
After receiving the the threats, security at the airport has been beefed up and a tight vigil is being kept, especially when the country is preparing for Independence Day celebrations.
The Birsa Munda Airport was recently adjudged as the best in the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) survey along with Udaipur airport by the Airports Authority of India.
