New Delhi: Security forces gunned down one terrorist in ongoing operation in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation is underway.

The identity of the terrorist has not yet been ascertained.

Patrolling parties in Handwara were attacked by terrorists on Wednesday night. The security forces were on their way to cordon off the Kralgund village, when they were attacked. The terrorists were surrounded after a search operation that was initiated following the attack.

After this, there were reports of brief exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in Kralgund.

As per fresh reports, exchange of fire between the terrorists and forces has started again. As a precautionary step, the area has been evacuated.

It is pertinent to note that a three-day long encounter took place between terrorists and security forces between March 1 and March 3 that lasted for about 60 hours, In the heavy exchange of fire, 5 soldiers were martyred, of which three belonged to the CRPF and two were from Jammu and Kashmir Police.

In this gunfight three terrorists were decimated, after forces detonated a house in which they were hiding.

Following this, one terrorist, who had been considered dead, got up on his feet and started firing.
