In the fourth terror-related incident reported from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the last three days, a policeman was injured on Wednesday after terrorists opened fire on a search party in a village located in the Gandoh area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir. 


According to the police, the fire was reported at around 7:41 pm today from Bhalesa's top area, following which the security forces retaliated, news agency PTI reported.


"An intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides was going on when last reports were received. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area to strengthen the cordon," PTI quoted the police officials as saying.


The injured cop has been identified as Fareed Ahmed of special forces.


"Today at 20:20 hrs, an encounter started between security forces & terrorists at Kota Top, Gandoh, Doda. Constable Fareed Ahmed (973/D) of SOG Gandoh was injured during the operation at Kerloo Bhalessa. Encounter ongoing, more details awaited," Zonal Police Media Centre Jammu said in a statement on X.


Second Terror Attack In Doda In Past 24 Hours


The firing incident today is the second terror-related incident in Doda district in the last 24 hours. Earlier today, a senior police officer said that a group of three-four terrorists was present in Doda's higher reaches.


On Tuesday evening, in a separate incident, five Rashtriya Rifles personnel and a Special Police Officer were also injured in a terrorist attack on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road in Chattargalla pass. Due to this, traffic on the highway was suspended as an operation to track down the terrorists was being carried out.


A suspected Pakistani terrorist was killed in the Kathua district by security forces on Tuesday evening. The terrorist was holed up in a border village and was gunned down by the security forces after an operation that lasted over 15-hours. However, a CRPF jawan lost his life in the operation.


The chain of terror attacks began on Sunday, after terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi. The attack caused the bus to veer off the road, falling into a deep gorge. The terror attack killed nine people and left 41 others injured.
