The Jammu & Kashmir Police has arrested a Congress leader's brother and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sheikh Aadil Mushtaq in a terror-linked corruption case on Thursday. This comes nearly three years after the dramatic arrest of Deputy Superintendent Davinder Singh, who was arrested for aiding terrorists.
Singh was arrested while driving two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from Srinagar to Jammu in January 2020. He was accused of forging links with militants and dismissed from service in May 2021. Both Singh and Aadil served as Deputy SPs of the Anti-Hijacking Wing of the J&K Police at the Srinagar airport.
Sheikh Aadil, originally a resident of Baramulla town in North Kashmir, joined the J&K Police as a gazetted officer after passing the state civil services examination in 2015. Aadil comes from a family of politicians. His brother advocate Sheikh Amir is a Congress leader while his father was a political activist.
He also happens to be the son-in-law of a former District & Sessions Court Judge, who resigned from the judicial service and joined Farooq Abdullah’s Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC). Aadil's father-in-law is considered to be a strong contender for the NC's ticket from a southern Kashmir constituency in the next assembly elections.
Aadil completed his education at Savitribai Phule University, Pune, with a masters degree in an engineering discipline before joining the J&K Police. He is a Kalinga Fellowship recipient as well. Aadil, born on August 17, 1996, is also sort of a social media influencer.
In his relatively brief career of seven years as an officer, Aadil served in various capacities within the Jammu and Kashmir police, including the Executive, Armed, and Security branches, as well as the Traffic department. He held positions as SDPO Gurez, DSP Traffic, DSP Security (Airport), DSP Operations (SOG), DSP Udhampur, and was currently serving as SDPO Pantha Chowk when the allegations arose.
