Jammu and Kashmir police, in collaboration with the army, have successfully dismantled a terror module and apprehended four militants from different locations in Kulgam district on Friday (July 28). The arrests have led to the resolution of the Yaripora Grenade incident, which left several civilians injured.


On May 24, a grenade was targeted at a police party in Yaripora's main chowk. The grenade, however, missed its intended target and exploded in the middle of a nearby crowd, injuring 13 people. Following that, a case (FIR No. 24/2022*) was opened at Police Station Yaripora, and an investigation was launched.


During the investigation, Kulgam Police, in coordination with the 1RR (Indian Army's Rashtriya Rifles), apprehended four terrorist associates and co-conspirators. Nasir Nabi Dar of Gundchahal, Frisal; Aaqib Majid Ganie of Badroo, Yaripora; Mohd Abass Dar of Gundchahal, Frisal; and Zahid Ali Bhat of Yaripora were apprehended.


Preliminary investigations have established their involvement in the aforementioned crime, and incriminating evidence was seized from their possession, including one pistol, two pistol magazines, one hand grenade, and 14 rounds of pistol ammunition.


On Thursday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha declared that the street violence in Jammu and Kashmir had ended and that a new era of peace had begun in the Union Territory. He claimed that there were elements in Kashmir who would frequently call for strikes, resulting in the loss of business and academic opportunities.


"The street violence in Jammu and Kashmir has ended." Those responsible for the street violence are no longer visible. "I understand that they were victims of some people," Sinha was quoted as saying while speaking at a Sufi conference in Srinagar.


"I am happy to tell you that today the 8th of Muharram procession was taken out after decades and concluded in Srinagar peacefully," he said, referring to the Muharram procession that was allowed after 33 years. "It would be inappropriate to politicise religious events," according to the Lt Governor, some people frequently called for a bandh for personal gain, PTI reported.
