New Delhi: A huge cordon and search operation has been launched in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, taking around two dozen districts under scanner.

The operation was started after the officials got reports about militants ambushing in the villages of Putrigam, Rohmu, Rajpora, Matrigam, Goosu, Frasipora among others.

The operation is being conducted by combined security forces including by army, police, and Central Reserve Police Force.

This is not the first such operation in the south Kashmir area undertaken by the security forces.

These operations known as area domination operations are usually undertaken to keep the militants on the run and prevent them from establishing a foothold in the region.

"So far, there have been no reports of any exchange of fire in any of the villages included in the search," a police officer said.
