New Delhi: A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist and a policeman were killed during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday. 


Five people, including three soldiers and two civilians, were injured in the incident in Pariwan area of Kulgam district.



The encounter took place when security forces launched a cordon and search operation following information about the presence of militants in Pariwan area, PTI reported. A joint team of the police and the security forces had cordoned off the area.


Officials said an encounter ensued after militants opened fire towards the security forces.


Inspector General of Police (Kashmir zone) Vijay Kumar said one policeman and one Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist were killed in the encounter


"One police personnel Sg Ct Rohit Chhib attained martyrdom, three Army soldiers got injured. Two civilians also got minor injuries. One terrorist of terror outfit JeM killed. Operation continues," Vijay Kumar tweeted.


The incident comes a day after Vijay Kumar reviewed the general security situation in the valley ahead of the Republic Day celebrations later this month.


On Monday, two terrorists were killed in an encounter by security forces at Hasanpora area in Kulgam district. The slain terrorists were identified as Imad Muzaffar Wani, a resident of Arigam Pulwama, and Abdul Rashid Thoker from Hassanpora, IANS reported.
