New Delhi: A militant belonging to the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit was killed in a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police in Reshipora village of Anantnag district on Saturday, news agency ANI reported. According to the report, three soldiers have sustained injuries while evacuating one civilian during the operation. They have been shifted to the hospital. An AK rifle and warlike stores have been recovered, defence PRO, Srinagar said.
"Terrorist Commander of proscribed terror outfit HM Nisar Khanday killed. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK 47 rifle recovered. Operation in progress," ANI quoted Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar as saying.
According to the ANI report, acting on a tip-off on Friday, a joint team launched a cordon in the area where the terrorist was said to hiding. As the team approached, the militant fired indiscriminately at the team that led to an encounter. In the exchange of fire, initially three army personnel and a civilian sustained injuries. They were airlifted to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, according to the report.
The slain terrorist has been identified as Nisar Khanday, the HM Commander, officials said.
Earlier, on May 29, two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were neutralised during a brief encounter in Jammu Kashmir’s Anantnag area.
According to police records, both the killed militants were part of groups that were involved in several terror crime cases, including attacks on police and security forces, and civilian atrocities.
As per an ANI report, the Jammu and Kashmir police, acting on a tip-off by the police regarding the presence of militants in Shitipora, Bijbehara area of Anantnag, had launched a joint cordon and search operation along with the Army (3RR) and CRPF.
During the search operation, as the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party that led to an encounter.
Earlier in May, three Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including an oldest surviving terrorist of the organisation, were killed in an anti-terrorist operation near the route of the annual Amarnath Yatra in Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir, according to an ANI report.
As per police records, all the three killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases, including attacks on security forces.
