New Delhi: A civilian was killed on Sunday in cross-firing between the militants and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) party in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district. The killing took place at a time when Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting the valley.


According to police, unidentified terrorists attacked a Naka party of 178 Battalion of CRPF at Babapora in Shopian around 1030 hours.

The CRPF retaliated and during cross-firing one person got killed, the police added.


The police said further details are being ascertained.


“Around 1030 hrs unidentified terrorists attacked a Naka party of 178 Bn, CRPF at Babapora, Shopian. CRPF retaliated the fire and during cross firing one unidentified person got killed. Further details are being ascertained.@JmuKmrPolice @KashmirPolice @DigSkr,” Shopian district police tweeted.



Meanwhile, the area has reportedly been cordoned and mobile internet has been snapped in Shopian post the killing of the civilian identified as Shahid Ahmad.

This is the second such civilian killing this month near a picket of the security forces in South Kashmir. It comes at a time when Union Home Minister Amit Shah is presently on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.


Earlier on October 7, a civilian identified as Parvez Ahmed was killed in Anantnag after the CRPF personnel had opened fire after the vehicle in which he was travelling in didn't stop at the security checkpoint despite being signalled to do so.
