The Jammu and Kashmir police killed two people proscribed with the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) on early Tuesday morning in an encounter in the Chaktaras Kandi area in Kupwara, the police said.


One of the two killed has been identified as a Pakistani terrorist named Tufail. The search operation in the area is still on, said Kashmir Inspector general of Police Vijay Kumar. 


“Two #terrorists of proscribed #terror outfit LeT including one #Pakistani terrorist namely Tufail killed. Search still going on: IGP Kashmir,” the Kashmir zone police tweeted this morning. 






When the encounter began a few hours ago, Kashmir zone police had tweeted, “#Encounter has started at Chaktaras Kandi area of #Kupwara. Police and Army on job. Further details shall follow.”


On late Monday night, another LeT terrorist was killed by the police in the Sopore district. He has been identified as Hanzallah, a resident of Lahore, Pakistan. 


The Kashmir police said last night that an AK 47 rifle has also been recovered from the killed terrorist.

“#SoporeEncounterUpdate: 01 #Pakistani #terrorist affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit LeT killed. #Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. 2 FTs and one local terrorist escaped from the cordon. Search going on. Further details shall follow: IGP Kashmir,” they added. 


The encounter took place at Panipora forest in the Zaloora area in Sopore. The police had said that the search operation is still on.
