New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that every Indian should empower themselves through technology and internet. “Due to Digital India program, empowerment and positive changes have taken place in our lives,” he added speaking at the National Conference on Cyber Safety and National Security in Delhi, news agency Asian News International (ANI) reported. The Home Minister said India is going forward in all areas with Prime Minister Modi’s initiative.

“The usage of technology has been taken to all levels. But if cyber security is not ensured, this strength can become a huge challenge for us,” Shah added.

Asserting India’s development in today’s era can’t be done without cyber security, Shah said: “We all know how important the building of a cyber secure India is, for the development of the nation.”

“If someone imagines cyber-secure India, the most important foundation is public awareness. Technocrats may research security facilities as much as they want but if people are not aware, it can’t be put into use,” he added in his address at the Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital.

The conference, organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), is part of the efforts to create mass awareness for prevention of cybercrimes in the country.

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre in the MHA in coordination with the Ministry of Culture in the run up to Monday’s conference had also organized functions at 75 places in different states and Union Territories on cyber hygiene, prevention of cybercrimes, cyber safety and national security under the banner “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” from June 8 to 17.
