Coronavirus in India: The country has been witnessing a steady decline in daily Covid cases for the past week. However, India's daily record of death count remains grim with the daily tally hovering around 4000.


India reports 2,22,315 new COVID19 cases, 3,02,544 discharges & 4,454 deaths in last 24 hrs, as per Health Ministry.

The Indian Council of Medical Research said that the total number of samples tested up to 23rd May is 33,05,36,064 including 19,28,127 samples tested yesterday.


Maharashtra


Maharashtra reported 26,672 new Covid cases and 594 deaths, taking the state’s case tally to 55,79,897 and toll to 88,620. Out of the cumulative number of cases, 3,48,395 are active.


As many as 29,177 new recoveries have pushed the total number of patients recovered to 5,140,272.


The recovery rate is at 92.12 per cent while case fatality rate has now reached 1.59 cent. The case positivity rate is recorded at16.9%.


Karnataka


With 25,979 new infections of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), Karnataka on Sunday reported under 30,000 new cases for the second time in May 2021. So far, 2,424,904 people have been tested positive for the disease in the state, a bulletin from the health department showed. However, new fatalities spiked in the day, as 626 patients lost their lives pushing the death toll to 25,282, the bulletin also showed.


Uttar Pradesh


Uttar Pradesh recorded less than 5,000 fresh coronavirus cases for the first time since the middle of last month. 


A total of 4,844 new cases were registered in the state in the last 24 hours, making it the lowest single-day count for Uttar Pradesh since mid-April.


As many as 14,086 have recovered from the disease. The drop in fresh cases is by 34,000 when compared to 38,055 infections registered at the pandemic’s peak on April 24.


Bihar


The COVID-19 situation continued to be grim in Bihar on Sunday as improvements in rates of infection and recovery notwithstanding, over 100 fatalities were reported and the death toll surged past the 4,500-mark.

According to the health department, 107 more patients succumbed to the dreaded virus and the toll stands at 4,549.

The state logged 4,002 fresh cases, pushing the tally to 6.89 lakh.

Bihar now has 40,691 active cases, a sharp drop since a few weeks ago when it was in excess of one lakh, while 6.44 lakh people have recovered from the virus so far.
