NEW DELHI: A total of thirty bodies have been recovered so far after a bus fell into a 400-feet deep gorge, killing more than 30 people in Maharashtra's Ambenali Ghat of Raigad district on Saturday. It is said that originally, 40 people were supposed to join the trip to Mahabaleshwar, the famous hill station town in Western Maharashtra, but some of them opted out at the last moment because the bus was small and there was no space.

In the horrific accident, there was only one person who was able to survive the fatal accident.

  1. Prakash Sawant-Desai had gone for a weekend trip with his colleagues on Saturday when the mini-bus they were travelling in fell off the road down a 400-feet gorge.

  2. As per reports, Desai is an assistant superintendent at the Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth.

  3. As the bus took a sharp turn due to mud and loose stones on this stretch of the ghat road, he was thrown off from the window and the bus fell into the gorge.

  4. He then grasped to the branch of a tree and somehow climbed up to the peak.

  5. When he reached the road, he saw a crowd of people. One of them gave me a mobile phone and he called up the police control room and informed them.

The group of picnickers from the university consisted only male professors of the University who had planned to go to popular tourist destinations of Mahabaleshwar-Panchgani. Disturbing visuals emerged of decapitated bodies and the bus being completely ripped apart. After the basic medical evaluation at a primary health centre in Poladpur, the survivor, Prakash Sawant-Desai was discharged. He did not sustain major injuries.
