Umesh Pal Case: The family of advocate Umesh Pal has sought a death sentence for mafia Atiq Ahmed saying that if the gangster lives, they won't be alive. The MP-MLA court in Prayagraj, UP will on Tuesday pronounce its verdict in the 2007 Umesh Pal kidnapping case in which both Atiq and his brother Ashraf are accused. They are also prime accused in the Raju Pal murder case of 2005.

Talking to the news agency ANI, Umesh Pal's mother said, "...We don't have the strength to fight a case in the time to come. He (Atiq Ahmed) should be sentenced to death by hanging. If he is sentenced to life imprisonment, he can do anything from jail. He got my son killed from jail. He won't let us live if he remains there..."

Umesh Pal's wife also demanded a death sentence for the former SP MLA and said, "I hope the court sentences him (Atiq Ahmed) to death by hanging. If he lives, perhaps we won't be able to be alive. Maybe it would be us next. If he is gone only then will terror be gone..."

The hearing in the 17-year-old Umesh Pal kidnapping case will take place on Tuesday and all accused, including Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, will be present in the court.

District Bar Association, Prayagraj has said that the hearing will not be held in any other cases except the Umesh Pal abduction case today in the MP-MLA court of Prayagraj. He added that a letter has been written to the Minister of District Advocates Association by the Presiding Officer of MP MLA Court. A request also has been made to pronounce a verdict on 28th March itself.

Security has been deployed outside Umesh Pal’s residence in Prayagraj ahead of the hearing on his abduction case.

On security inside Prayagraj jail, UP jail Minister Dharamveer Prajapati said, "As soon as the court ordered that if he reaches on time, then he should be kept in jail, we were prepared with high-security barracks, body cameras & CCTV cameras since yesterday. These mafias are nurtured by the previous government."
