Two bike-borne students were detained for causing a security scare on Sunday during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Bengaluru, PTI reported. The students attempted to enter a road when Amit Shah's convoy was passing through the Cubbon Road area on Sunday night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Bheemashankar Guled confirmed that these students entered the road from the Safiuna Plaza side.
"When a police constable tried to stop them, they rammed their two-wheeler into him and fled. The deployed policemen caught one of them. However, the other one escaped from the spot," PTI quoted Guled as saying.
Later, the authorities arrested the second person after interrogating the student who was detained first by the police.
Police have registered a case against the two individuals under section 353 (obstructing police from discharging duties) and 279 (rash and negligent driving) of the IPC, reported PTI.
However, the Deputy Commissioner said, "Yes, in one way it was a security lapse but these people did not know about the VVIP movement. They injured our policeman. Hence, we are initiating appropriate action against them."
Guled said the students had no ill-intention or any other motive related to Amit Shah's visit.
He further said they did not have any criminal background and that the bike belonged to their family.
