New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has tested positive for COVID-19, news agency PTI reported a spokesperson of the state government as informing on Monday.


He further stated the Chief Minister was scheduled to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday, but the meeting has now been postponed.


It was informed that Sukhu was found COVID positive in the national capital during the routine test mandatory before meeting the Prime Minister.


The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister is asymptomatic and as a precautionary measure has quarantined himself and all his engagements have been postponed, the spokesperson added, as per PTI.

Notably, CM Sukhu along with Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, state Congress Chief Pratibha Singh, and 38 newly elected MLAs joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan on December 16.


The Chief Minister has been in New Delhi and met several Congress leaders, including AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajiv Shukla and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, over the last few days.


India Logs 135 COVID-19 Cases


India logged 135 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases increased marginally to 3,559 from 3,552, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.


The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.46 crore (4,46,76,087).


The death toll stands at 5,30,674 with two fatalities reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.   The active cases comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.80 per cent, the ministry said.


An increase of seven cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
