NEW DELHI: After demonetising high valued notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 and releasing new ones in November last year, Reserve Bank of India is expected to soon release new Rs. 100.

Here is all about the new purple coloured currency. 

  • As per sources, the Dewas Bank note Press BNP has started printing of the new 100 note.

  • As per reports, this time the note will be in purple colour.

  • The notes are expected to come in the market in August.

  • One of the unique features about the notes is that Hoshangabad's Security Paper Mill is printing it on indigenous paper and ink.

  • In the same press, new notes of five hundred and two thousand rupees were also printed.

  • It is said that the old notes will also remain in circulation even and to be legal tender after the release of new notes.


Earlier, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued new Rs 10 notes under the Mahatma Gandhi series with chocolate brown colour as the base. They had the picture of the Konark Sun Temple.

On 8 November 2016, the government announced demonetisation to withdraw Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes, amounting to around 86% of the currency in circulation of Rs 17.9 trillion. Since then, RBI has replaced these with the new Rs 2000 notes and redesigned Rs 500 notes.
