New Delhi: Indian Wrestler Babita Phogat who recently took a political plunge by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, has resigned from her post as an inspector in Haryana Police.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that BJP will give her ticket to contest elections in the upcoming Haryana polls from Charkhi Dadri seat.

On her resignation from Haryana police she said: “I had joined the party, you can only join the party after submitting resignation else it would have been conflict of interest. I had submitted my resignation in August.”

She resigned from the service on 13th August this year. Her resignation from the post in Haryana Police has been accepted by the state police.

The  Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning wrestler and her father Mahavir joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a month ago in the presence of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju in Delhi.

Babita is the younger of the two famous Phogat sisters, elder being Geeta, on whom the successful Bollywood film 'Dangal' is based.

Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Babita's father, Mahavir Phogat had joined Jannayak Janata Party founded by Ajay Chautala, the jailed elder son of former chief minister OP Chautala. He was made chief of the party’s sports cell. However, he was not given a ticket by the party.
