New Delhi: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been provided Z-plus security by the Haryana government amid reports suggesting a threat to his life from Pro-Khalistani activists.

According to ABP News sources, the Additional Director had written a letter to the Rohtak Jail Commissioner which stated that there are reliable inputs suggesting a threat to the accused. Hence his security has been upgraded as he is out of prison on a 21-day furlough.

Ram Rahim, currently lodged in Sunaria jail in Rohtak district, was granted a 21-day furlough bail to meet his family in Gurugram. He is out of prison from February 7-27.

Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year jail term after being convicted in 2017 of raping two of his women disciples in his ‘ashram’ in Sirsa where the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters was located.

He has been in jail since his conviction in August 2017 and this is his first long-term bail. Earlier he was granted one-day parole from sunrise to sunset to meet his ailing mother and has been out of jail for medical treatments.

Ram Rahim has a huge following in Punjab that underwent polling on February 20. Now, he has been advised to stay in the Gurugram farmhouse until his furlough gets over considering the threat to his life.

Ram Rahim was also convicted for the murder of a journalist in 2019 along with three others. He is also accused in multiple other cases including the murder of the former manager of Dera Sacha Sauda, who circulated an anonymous letter revealing Ram Rahim’s sexual exploitation in the ashram. The journalist was murdered because he published the said letter.
