Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated several projects worth over Rs 3900 crore in Modhera, Mehsana. While addressing the public event he stated that Modhera, which is associated with the Sun Temple will also be known for its strides in solar energy, news agency ANI reported. 

 

The Prime Minister also declared Modhera to be India's first 24x7 solar-powered village.






"Big day for Modhera as it takes a giant leap towards harnessing solar power:" PM Modi said in Modhera. 






"Now we will not pay for electricity, but start selling it & earn from it... Till a while back, the govt used to supply electricity to citizens but now, with the installation of solar panels, citizens will produce their own electricity:" PM Modi stated, ANI reported.

"This project, which is first of its kind, realises the Prime Minister’s vision of solarization of the sun-temple town of Modhera", a Prime Minister Office (PMO) statement reported. 


It entailed the development of a ground-mounted solar power plant as well as over 1300 rooftop solar systems on residential and government buildings, all of which were integrated with a battery energy storage system (BESS).


"The project will demonstrate how India’s renewable energy prowess can empower people at grassroots," as per a statement by PMO. 


PM Modi will perform Darshan and Pooja at Modheshwari Mata Temple following the public function. He will also visit the Sun Temple to see the beautiful projection mapping show.


PM Modi is on a three-day visit to Gujarat from October 9 to 11.
