Rupani began to lose his stregnth further as he delivered his speech. A bodyguard who was standing behind tried to hold him but the CM collapsed surrounded by BJP leaders who had rushed to help.
These public gatherings have been held ahead of the civic body polls scheduled for February 21.
Vijay Rupani was given first aid on stage and then taken to the airport from where he will go to a hospital in Ahmedabad. BJP leaders assure that the Gujarat CM is fine now. The reasons given behind his ill health include exhaustion and a drop in blood pressure.
"Mr Rupani's health was not proper for the last two days, but instead of cancelling his public meetings held in Jamnagar on Saturday and in Vadodara on Sunday, he preferred to go ahead," BJP leader Bharat Danger said as quoted by news agency PTI.
Elections to six municipal corporations including Vadodara will be held on February 21 while those for municipalities, districts, and taluka panchayats will be held on February 28.
