New Delhi: Tamil Nadu government announced on Monday a complete lockdown in four districts, including the capital Chennai. it will begin from June 19 and continue till June 30. ALSO READ | Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Clears Air Over Lockdown Extension, Says 'No Such Plans'


As per reports, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has announced a 'maximized restricted lockdown' from June 19 to June 30. The four districts are Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur which come under Metropolitan Chennai Police limits.

Media reports say, that Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had a meeting with the Health Committee who recommend tightening the current relaxations to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

In a tweet, the ruling party AIADMK said “Full Lockdown from 19th for Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet & Kanchipuram Districts. #StayHomeStaySafe #CoronavirusLockdown”


Tamil Nadu is one of the worst affected states in the country after Maharashtra, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website. The state has 19,679 active cases, 435 recorded deaths, almost 24,547 have recovered from the virus amounting to 44,661 cases in total as on 15 June 2020, 08:00 IST.

Late last week, a tweet had gone viral which claimed that a new lockdown will be imposed on June 15 which will also halt train and air services.

The  Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palaniswami had dismissed the rumours and has also tweeted about the false viral claim “This news is completely false. No one needs to believe these rumours. Legal action will be taken against those who spread such false information″.
