New Delhi: A day after former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh changed his Twitter name in support of PM Modi's #MainBhiChowkidar campaign on the social media platform, he quoted the reason behind his motive to do so. While speaking exclusively to ABP News, he said that any person who is in the position where he/she is accountable to the citizens of the country is a chowkidar. Be it MLA, MP, Prime Minister or even the President for that matter who serves the public and is accountable to the people of the nation, is a chowkidar, he added.

Prime Minister Modi had started the ‘Chowkidar’ campaign in response to the smear campaign launched by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his Party by coining slogans like “Chowkidar Chor Hai”. While commenting on Gandhi for calling PM Modi 'Chor', Amar Singh told ABP News that control over language is very vital in politics. He said, "When Mani Shankar used foul language, he was ousted from the party. Then why is Rahul Gandhi doing the same now."

He praised PM Modi for making all leaders realise how they need to be grounded and feel responsible for Indians. Expressing his gratefulness to the PM, Singh said that he is thankful to Narendra Modi who reminded the ministers about their prime responsibility of being public servants.

Singh also slammed senior SP leader Ramgopal Yadav who had accused the Modi government of perpetrating the Pulwama terror attack for serving a political purpose. He questioned the timing of Yadav’s remarks as all the Chief Secretaries of SP government’s regime are lodged in jail.

Last year, Amar Singh said he would prefer to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi and state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati.
