The Union government last year on September 27, 2020, had passed the three farm laws. The three farm laws that were passed in the Parliament were the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020; and Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020.
Following this, the farmers started their protests on November 25 and moved towards Delhi. They were stopped at the Singhu border of Delhi where they continued their sit-in protest. Several rounds of talks between the government and farmer representatives did not yield any results. But now the Centre has decided to repeal the three farm laws.
