The BJP claimed a scandal in Delhi's education department on Monday, alleging that the city administration boosted the budget for classroom development in existing schools while disregarding Central Public Works Department standards, news agency PTI reported.
According to a report issued to the Delhi government's vigilance department by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in 2020, the construction cost was increased by Rs 326 crore, or 53% higher than the tender value.
Speaking at a press conference, BJP Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia stated: "Corruption is in the DNA of Arvind Kejriwal. It's not AAP sarkar but PAAP ki sarkar (government of sins). He and (Manish) Sisodia are experts in corruption... Where did this money go? Did it go into your pocket, Arvind Kejriwal ji? Did you take note of the report? What action did you take on it?"
"Delhi govt's education model is an "extortion model"; public will teach AAP a lesson," he further stated.
"The AAP government promised to construct 500 new schools in Delhi. That never happened. They then said they will build more classrooms in the existing schools. The number of rooms was increased from 2,400 to 7,180. The construction cost was increased by up to 90 per cent," he alleged, PTI reported.
"Everything happens via tender. He (Delhi CM) arbitrarily appointed an architect, a consultant close to jailed minister Satyendar Jain - Babbar and Babbar. He appointed a consultant without tender. It should be probed," Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle.
"It has been found that Babbar and Babbar Associate too was appointed by Delhi Govt without tender. This is a matter of grave corruption," he further said.
