AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal hit out at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday for the crackdown on child marriage in the state. Speaking exclusively to ABP News AIUDF Chief said that the government should have alerted the people and created awareness before taking such a decision.
"The bill to increase the marriageable age of girls from 14 to 18 years was passed in the Parliament in 2006. It is only now that the Assam government of Himanta Biswa Sarma is implementing it in the state," said AIUDF Chief.
Speaking further Ajmal said that the government did not warn the people or create any awareness before taking the decision.
He alleged that the Assam CM "likes to trouble Muslims" and that 90 per cent of the arrests made in the case are from the Muslim community.
The AIUDF Chief also leveled allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the Prime Minister's real slogan is "Sabka Saath, Sabka Satyanaash."
He said that the Prime Minister wants to gather votes from Muslims for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but leaders like Yogi Adityanath and Himanta Biswa Sarma work against the Muslim community and are the "real enemies" of PM Modi.
Referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Badruddin Ajmal said that if Modi and BJP have to be dethroned, the opposition parties will have to form a strong coalition.
Recently, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had also reiterated that unity between opposition parties is necessary to defeat the BJP in the 204 general elections.
Speaking on Uniform Civil Code, NRC and CAA in the interview, Badruddin Ajmal said that his party is against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and will oppose the NRC-CAA till his last breath.
The Assam government is in the process of formulating a rehabilitation policy for the victims of child marriage, especially for those girls whose husbands have been arrested in the recent crackdown.
