On the other hand, new satellite photographs indicate that the tremendous earthquake that rocked Japan on New Year's Day moved its shoreline by 800 km. The 7.5 magnitude earthquake slammed Japan's main island Honshu just after midnight, killing 213 people and putting 26,000 in emergency shelters. Almost 60,000 houses were without running water, and 15,600 were without power. The power of the earthquake was enough to build two football fields of new beach and leave harbours dry, according to satellite photographs published weeks later.
