New Delhi: A Ration Card provides entitlement to the food and basic requirements at reasonable rates by the Public Distribution System and is a proof of citizenship in India. After Aadhaar Card, Ration Card is also a valid ID proofs/documents for anyone's citizenship in India.

During the time of the pandemic, the ration card is becoming very important as Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is using it as a way for people to procure free ration.

The scheme, however, has been extended to non-ration cardholders as well, via e-coupons and for those who can not apply for e-coupons he has sent 2000 food coupons to each of Delhi’s MPs and MLAs for them to distribute it among people who do not have Ration cards or any ID proofs.

Here's are steps to apply for e-coupons for ration in Delhi during Coronavirus lockdown:

  • Visit the official website -- delhi.gov.in

  • Click on the link "Apply for Temporary Ration Coupon"

  • Fill in the details as requested

  • Upload a clear picture of your Aadhar card

  • Click on 'Submit' button

  • Get an e-Coupon or a unique number on your phone with your address of Ration distribution centre

  • Take this Coupon with the original Aadhar card to ration center and collect your ration.


 

According to the Ministry of Health’s data, Delhi’s COVID-19 positive cases have gone up to 2376. While the lockdown is in place, there are many people who are unemployed who can not buy food anymore.

The food scheme is looking to feed almost 11 million people that’s almost half of Delhi’s population, including those who do not have a ration card.
