According to a report submitted by the Principal District Judge in Jharkhand, the Spanish national who was allegedly gangraped in Dumka is emotionally shattered.  The Spanish woman was also given compensation amounting to Rs 10 lakh following directions of the judge.


The Spanish woman who was allegedly gangraped in Jharkhand’s Dumka is “emotionally shattered” but physically in stable condition, according to Anil Kumar Mishra, Dumka’s Principal District Judge (PDJ) and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, the Indian Express reported.


The observation was made by the judge in a report to the Jharkhand Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) after meeting the woman.


According to the report, Mishra and his team ensured that the woman had sufficient security. They also assisted her in recording her statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.  The judge has also directed that compensation of Rs 10 lakh should be paid to her.


The Spanish woman was given compensation of to Rs 10 lakh by the District Legal Services Authority in Jharkhand, the LiveLaw reported.


Mishra had further submitted in his report that they assured the Spanish couple that the wrongdoers will be apprehended and prosecuted as soon as possible. He then wrote that the victim was emotionally shattered but was in stable physical condition, and her medical examination was in process.


Last week, the woman was allegedly raped by seven men, when the couple stopped in Dumka for the night while on a biking trip. When the news came to light, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad took suo motu cognisance and directed the police to submit reports on the investigation on a regular basis.


According to the report, four people have been arrested in connection with the case. The police are on the lookout for the other accused as well. The Spanish couple also posted a picture of the accused on social media and appealed to the public to help the police in finding them.
