New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) at the Punjab-Pakistan border shot down a drone and seized two unidentified packets in the Ajnala sector near Pajgarain post. The BSF’s search operation is still going on in the region.

On Wednesday morning at around 5 AM, the troops in the Panjgrain area heard a buzzing sound of a suspected flying object moving from the Pakistani side to the Indian side. Subsequently, the troops fired upon the drone and launched a search operation.

The incident took place around 2700 meters away from the IB in Gurdaspur Sector, District Amritsar, Punjab FTR. The BSF launched the search operation in the Ghaggar and Singhoke villages with trained dogs and dog handlers.

During the search, the BSF troops recovered two yellow coloured packets with suspected contraband. The investigation is still going on, though the BSF suspects smuggling of drugs in those packets.

“Troops in Panjgrain heard the buzzing of a suspected flying object coming from the Pakistan side to India. Troops fired upon the drone. During the search in village Ghaggar & Singhoke, 2 packets of yellow colour with suspected contraband recovered so far,” BSF said.

However, this is not the first such incident in the past month on the Punjab border. In January, another such incident took place, both of which involved drones.

On January 18, the BSF troops detected a drone at a distance of nearly 200 meters from the IB and 50 meters away from the BS fence in AOR of 71 Bn BSF, Amritsar Sector. The current incident happened in AOR of 73 Bn BSF, Ajnala Sector, District Amritsar.
