New Delhi: Due to a record increase in petrol and diesel prices, everything from logistics to essential commodities is getting expensive. Petrol has crossed Rs 100 and diesel Rs 90 per liter in more than half the country. Freight is increasing due to an increase in oil price, due to which vegetables are also getting expensive. According to a report, vegetables are costlier by 40 percent within a month.
In Delhi's Azadpur Mandi, the price of potatoes has increased from Rs 15-20 per kg in the first week of June, to Rs 25 per kg. The price of tomato and bitter gourd has increased from Rs 30 to Rs 40 now. Onion sold for Rs 30-40 is now selling at Rs 50 per kg. Similarly, the prices of other vegetables like gourd, okra, brinjal, and peas have also increased.
25% increase in freight charges on fruits and vegetables
The rising prices of petrol and diesel are directly affecting the prices of essential commodities. Food oil, soap, toothpaste, kitchen items, everything is getting expensive. Petrol is being sold at Rs 100 and diesel at Rs 90 per liter in Delhi today. The price of oil has increased by about Rs 10 per liter in the last two months. Not only this, sanitization, toll, maintenance, and insurance have also increased. Overall, the cost of transport has increased by about 30 to 35 percent. At the same time, freight has increased by 20 to 25 percent.
It is pertinent to note that diesel accounts for 65 percent of the cost of transport. Maintenance, insurance, and EMI account for 20-25 percent. Due to an increase in the diesel price, the cost of transport increases, and all goods become expensive.
